Peacock has released the first trailer for Strung, the upcoming psychological thriller directed by Malcolm D. Lee and starring Chloe Bailey. The film is scheduled to premiere June 26 on the streaming platform following its debut as the opening-night selection at this year’s American Black Film Festival in Miami Beach on May 27.
Written by Alan B. McElroy, whose previous credits include Wrong Turn and Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, the film follows a talented violinist played by Bailey who accepts a prestigious tutoring position for the daughter of a wealthy and mysterious family. What initially appears to be a career-changing opportunity quickly spirals into something far more dangerous as unsettling secrets begin surfacing inside the family’s luxurious estate.
The trailer leans heavily into suspense, teasing hallucinations, emotional manipulation, and growing paranoia as Bailey’s character begins questioning both her surroundings and her own state of mind. Alongside Bailey, the cast includes Lynn Whitfield, Lucien Laviscount, Anna Diop, Coco Jones, and Langley Kirkwood.
“I love a good suspense thriller and a solid narrative that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats,” Lee said. “I hadn’t had the privilege of directing a film in this genre, but when I read Alan McElroy’s script, I knew I had to dip my toe in this water.”
“The countless times I reacted out loud while reading the script’s twists and turns motivated me to put my own stamp on this evergreen genre and add to the pantheon of psychological thrillers,” he continued. “Strung draws you in with a combination of lush visuals, captivating performances and a riveting soundtrack that captivates viewers – that is, if your heart and nerves can withstand the suspense.”
The film also marks another collaboration involving Tyler Perry, who serves as a producer alongside Lee, Jason Blum, Tim Palen, and Dominique Telson. The project comes from Peachtree & Vine and Blumhouse in association with Blackmaled Productions.
