The Best Man Series Is Coming to Bookshelves — See the Cover! (People)

Filmmaker Malcolm D. Lee is continuing the story of romcom classic The Best Man series — but this time in a new novel! PEOPLE can reveal the cover of The Best Man: Unfinished Business, the series’ first novel, forthcoming this summer from Storehouse Voices.

The book series picks up from where the 2022 Peacock series, The Best Man: The Final Chapters, left off. It follows “Harper, Jordan and Robyn as they navigate unconventional parenthood, mid-life crises and a second chance at love,” per the press release. Lee and co-author Jayne Allen — who wrote acclaimed novel Black Girls Must Die Exhausted — will release two additional books, slated for release in 2026.

The original film, which premiered in 1999, stars Taye Diggs as novelist Harper Stewart, who reunites with college buddies Lance (Morris Chestnut), Quentin (Terrence Howard), and Julian (Harold Perrineau) during a particularly dramatic wedding weekend.

During the wedding celebrations, his heart is torn between old and new love interests, Jordan (Nia Long) and Robyn (Sanaa Lathan), respectively. Fourteen years later, The Best Man Holiday premiered, and then in 2022, the hit eight-part Peacock mini-series, The Best Man: The Final Chapters, continued the crew’s stories.
